iPhone killer-app: Joost?

I AM AS QUALIFIED AS YOUR AVERAGE ANALYST TO SPECULATE

I was slow to jump on the Joost bandwagon. Very slow. So slow I didn’t until yesterday, when I had to take a look at the program for a school assignment. Originally I had thought the program would suck, the concept of streaming p2p video didn’t appeal to me. Youtube and its ilk seemed to be the way forward, to me at least.

It seemed I had several misconceptions about the applications: First of all, I had assumed that it was more like actual television. You would tune into a station and then watch whatever was “on”. This is not the case, in fact, channels are more like groups for similar content and you are able to pick and choose what to watch.

While its catalog is not as diverse as Youtubians, it does offer a somewhat wide breadth of content. But sitting behind my computer watching TV programs does not appeal to me. Then it hit me.

Joost needs to be on the iPhone/iPod Touch. With Wifi or 3G (haha, sucks to be you EDGy Americans!) you could stream video through Joost and have a real mobile television device, not those crappy receivers sitcom dads have at funerals and/or weddings to watch the important baseball game.

Odds of Apple doing this? Very low, they have the content they sell on the iTunes Store and while they advertise on Joost, I doubt they would be seeing the income they generates from the iTS from Joost.

Perhaps some enterprising hackers at Joost inc. could take a crack at it?
