iTunes Store vs Amazon MP3
I read TUAW’s review of the Amazon MP3 store and decided to check it out for myself.
I’ve been listening to a top 1212 program on a Dutch radio station (link) and was adding songs I was interested in to my iTunes Shopping Cart. A good opportunity to forgo iTunes for now and check out Amazon I thought.
The results were disappointing. Two of the songs weren’t found at all:

The Lou Reed song just had a cover karaoke version:

And the Von Bondies song was found, but couldn’t be purchased for whatever reason:
While Amazon might have superior quality DRM-free MP3 downloads it doesn’t have near the selection iTunes does. So I’ll be sticking to iTunes for now, thanks.

That is true, but wouldn’t it be a better to compare iTunes Plus to Amazon.com since they’re both DRM-Free and higher quality? I find Amazon.com to have a much larger selection than iTunes Plus and are at least 30 cents lower in price. For those of us who refuse to purchase music with DRM, that makes Amazon.com the clear winner.

I guess it’d be more fair in the sense that both are equal in restrictions (or lack thereof) and quality, but the fact still remains that on iTunes I can legally buy those songs and on Amazon I can’t.
Now, to be quite honest I don’t care about the DRM that much since I have a Mac and an iPod, but I’d prefer MP3 versions.
And I’ll admit that the fact that’s its integrated into the application makes it far more easier to buy stuff, I’m lazy like that.
Your point is valid.
